The periwinkle is a perennial herb with flowers that can bloom throughout the year, depending on the climate. These often are bred for their unique colors, ranging from white to green-yellow and lavender. They have slender trailing stems 1–2 m (3.3–6.6 ft) long but not growing more than 20–70 cm (8–27.5 in) above ground; the stems frequently take root where they touch the ground, enabling the plant to spread widely. The leaves are opposite, simple broad lanceolate to ovate, 1–9 cm (0.5–3.5 in) long and 0.5–6 cm (0.20–2.36 in) broad.

Process :

1. Use any potting soil mixed with 1/4 part sand in your Vinca periwinkle’s pot. The sand helps create a soil that drains easily.
2. Add mulch to the top of the soil to protect the Vinca periwinkle and other plants from extreme temperatures and keep the soil moist.
3. Place the pot in a spot where it gets partial sun. Vinca periwinkle grows best in mostly shade but flowers best with more sunlight.
4. Prune the Vinca periwinkle regularly. In optimal conditions, the plant grows beyond the pot without stopping. You can cut it back anytime of the year and to the length you prefer the vine to be at.
5. Add fertilizer to the pot in the spring after the last frost.
6. Water as needed to keep the soil moist in the summer. In the winter, you do not need to water as often, because Vinca periwinkle does not grow much during the colder months.

1. Adds Beauty to the Garden

1. Plant the Vinca periwinkle along the edges of your pot, encircling the taller plants in the middle. This is a trailing plant that grows out of the pot. If planted in the middle, it may overgrow inside the pot and prevent other plants in the pot from thriving.
2. Apply infrequent supplemental water in only the hottest and driest periods.

1. The biggest issue with Madagascar periwinkle care is overwatering.
